SAC2021, Day 7...

Happy Saturday, All! Today, we enjoy another great tale from the good people at the Old City Cemetery Committee - in this case, it involves a few of those Masons, including a governor, a Canadian rebel, and a doctor. We also learn more about the magic within the El Dorado County Historical Museum. Soon after that at 1:00 pm, archivist James Scott of the Sacramento Public Library's Sacramento Room takes us on a journey to the Depression Era Hoovervilles of Sacramento. To attend, click here for Zoom credentials. Our friends at the West Sacramento Historical Society take us through a terrific presentation on redistricting in Yolo County. And, to the end the day, California Revealed brings us “Preserving Perseverance: Stories of Personal Power and Resilience” features a selection of four films from the California Revealed collection that tell stories of empowerment, connection, and personal growth. 

SAC2021, Day 6...

Stand by for another great day of history! Today, at 11:00 am, the Yolo County Archives and historians Floyd Shimomura and Emily Masuda speak about the Japanese American community of Winters (click here to attend event). Then, at 2 pm, TODAY, the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park shows its historic wares with its living history weekend. The State Library's California History Section tackles the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Archivist Jason Sarmiento of the Welga Archive, Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies, shines a light on Filipino activism through an excellent presntation on the Liz Fenkell Papers. Root Cellar – Sacramento Genealogical Society, then presents a video that addresses their mission to encourage public interest in researching, documenting, and preserving family histories.

SAC2021, Day 5...

Good morning, CRAWLERS!!!! Today, the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park takes us through the procedures used by the indigenous Nisenan people for processing acorns, while the Old City Cemetery Committee takes us into the life of Mary Gregory, a person that Leland Stanford regarded to be a better business person than him. Then our friends at California Revealed take us back to the influenza pandemic of the early 20th-century with items that shed light on the California experience during this time. ALSO!!! At 4 pm today, join activist and educator Marielle Tsukamoto along with Sacramento State archivist Julie Thomas for a discussion on the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, how democracy failed during that time, and how we can protect it in the future. The great Juan Ramos of the California State Archives wraps up Day 5 with a talk on book restoration.

SAC2021, Day 4...

China painter Lulu Weatherwax of Placerville is the subject of a cool presentation by the El Dorado County Historical Museum. Archivist Kelsey Monahan of the Placer County Archive and Research Center goes LIVE for a terrific look into one of the Sacramento Region's historically rich repositories. And here come those great folks at Cox Black and White Lab with a presentation on how to care for your old family photographs and documents. Finally, Nick and William of the Center for Sacramento History take us on a LIVE look into film and photographic preservation.

SAC2021, Day 3...

We're back with Day 3 of the Sacramento Archives Crawl. With an eye on better understanding the fight for racial equality in California, the California State Library's California History Section takes us on a journey through the various formats within the Jeremiah Burke Sanderson Collection. We also see photographic documentation of the Old City Cemetery Committee's dedicated efforts to raise $35,000 for the restoration of various headstones in Sacramento's beloved-by-many Old City Cemetery. Finally, brought to us by the Placer County Museums Division, learn about the gritty (and, of course, perseverant) town of Iowa Hill.
