How to Crawl

Sacramento Archives Crawl is coming this Saturday, and here are the steps to a fun and successful crawl:

1) Check out your transportation and parking options.

2) Start at any host location:

California State Archives (1020 O Street)
California State Library (900 N Street)
Center for Sacramento History (551 Sequoia Pacific Blvd)
Sacramento Public Library (Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, Central Library, 828 I Street)

3) Pick up the Archives Crawl passport at your first location.

4) View great collections on the theme of "Having Fun in the Sacramento Region," sign up for behind-the-scenes tours, ask for expert advice, and enjoy connecting with fellow archives fans.

5) Collect stamps in your passport from at least three of the host locations and receive a set of commemorative coasters.

6) Mark your calendar for the next Sacramento Archives Crawl on October 3, 2015.

Passport to Sacramento Fun

Every participant in this year's Sacramento Archives Crawl will receive a passport containing a map of host locations, bus schedule, directory of participating archives, list of sponsors and more.  Collect stamps from at least three of the four host locations and you will receive a set of commemorative coasters with historical images of Sacramento fun.  Preview the passport here (16MB, pdf):

Transportation and Parking Options

There are a number of ways to crawl from location to location on Saturday:

Central Library (828 I Street)

Driving: Free parking is available at the California State Archives (1020 O Street) and the Center for Sacramento History (551 Sequoia Pacific Blvd.). The California State Library (900 N Street) is within easy walking distance of the California State Archives. Convenient street and garage parking is available at many locations downtown for a fee.

Walking: The California State Archives (1020 O Street) and California State Library (900 N Street) are within easy walking distance of one another. The Central Library (828 I Street) is 1/2 mile from the State Archives and State Library.

Bus: Crawlers can also choose to travel aboard a bus that conveniently departs every 15 minutes from each location. Click on the image below to view the bus stop locations and schedule.

Promotion of History conference on Archives Crawl weekend

This year the California Council for the Promotion of History (CCPH) will be holding its one-day annual meeting in conjunction with Sacramento Archives Crawl.  The conference will take place on Friday, October 10, at the California State Railroad Museum and will feature a panel discussion about the future of public history and a workshop on how to develop digitized records.  The CCPH website provides more information about the conference and its connection to the archives crawl.
