Our 2022 Theme! Acquired Tastes: Food and Agriculture in Regional Collections

We are excited to introduce the theme of the 2022 Sacramento Archives Crawl! This year we embrace our food, our soil, and our great fortune of living and working in one of the world's premier food producing regions. Our theme is Acquired Tastes: Food and Agriculture in Regional Collections

At this point, we are preparing to have a traditional in-person event so ready yourself to bus, walk, and crawl to our four main venues - the Center for Sacramento History, the Sacramento Room, the California State Library, and the California State Archives - to see the ephemera, photographs, manuscripts, artifacts, and so much more that document the development of the Sacramento region's unquestioned prowess in the realms of food and agricultural production. View preview displays and share the upcoming event with friends by going to https://www.facebook.com/sacarchivescrawl.

Our Governing Principles

The Sacramento Archives Crawl Committee recently revisited and refreshed two of its guiding organizational statements to better clarify its mission and the scope and nature of its participating institutions. They are as follows:

Mission Statement

The Sacramento Archives Crawl is held each October during American Archives Month to celebrate archival institutions and their work. Our aim is to educate the public on what archives are, what archivists do, and the importance of historical preservation and research.

Criteria to Participate

The Sacramento Archives Crawl is open to institutions that actively collect original archival records and make them accessible to the public for research use. This can include academic, government, and private archives; special collections libraries; museum archives; and other historical organizations that have active archival collections.

Organizations that support the work of archives by providing preservation or research services, but that are not active collecting archives, can request to participate as vendors.

The Sacramento Archives Crawl Committee annually considers archives and vendor participant requests and makes the final decision as a group on a case-by-case basis.
